May cause drowsiness or dizziness. Other side effects include heartburn, loss of appetite, headache, anxiety, flushing or sweating, change in sexual desire or ability. If these symptoms persist or worsen, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop: rapid heart rate, difficulty swallowing, white spots or swelling of the mouth/tongue, difficulty urinating. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PROZAC: May be taken with food to prevent stomach upset. Take this as prescribed. Try to take each dose at the same time(s) each day so you remember to take it routinely.
Fluoxetine is used to treat depression, bulimia (an eating disorder), and various obsessive-compulsive disorders (OCD). It is also used to treat PMS (premenstrual syndrome).
PROZAC may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Tell doctor your medical history, especially of: recent heart attack, history of seizures, heart disease, liver disease, kidney disease, diabetes, any allergies Because fluoxetine may make you dizzy/drowsy, use caution performing tasks that require alertness such as driving or using machinery. Limit alcohol consumption. PROZAC should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. PROZAC is excreted into breast milk. The manufacturer of PROZAC states that taking PROZAC while breast-feeding is not recommended. Consult with your doctor about breast-feeding.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription medications you may use, especially of: tranquilizers; antidepressants; MAO inhibitors (e.g., furazolidone, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, selegiline, linezolid); lithium; phenytoin; carbamazepine; tryptophan; anxiety medication (e.g., diazepam); diabetes drugs; fluvoxamine; paroxetine; sertraline; venlafaxine; sumatriptan; dexfenfluramine. Fluoxetine may affect the amount of glucose (sugar) in your blood. Your dosage of diabetes medication may need to be adjusted when fluoxetine is started or discontinued. Consult your doctor. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, seizures, and restlessness.
Do not allow anyone else to take PROZAC.
It is not necessary to make up the missed dose. Skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.
Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (between 15 and 30 degrees C) away from moisture and sunlight. Do not store in the bathroom.
